FAQ

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Primary containment is the main means of preventing leaks and spills using equipment in direct content with the oil or gas being stored or transported. Oilfield liners are one option for primary containment of these liquids during gas and oil drilling operations.

Secondary containment is defined as a means of surrounding one or more primary storage containers to collect any hazardous material spillage in the event of loss of integrity or container failure.

A geomembrane is very low permeability synthetic membrane liner or barrier used with any geotechnical engineering related material so as to control fluid (or gas) migration in a human-made project, structure, or system.

Polyurea is a high-performance elastomeric membrane that exhibits remarkable durability and performance qualities. Based on amine-terminated polyether resins, amine chain extenders, and MDI pre-polymers, polyurea provides a tough-yet-flexible membrane that can be used in a wide range of applications. As an added bonus, polyurea is also safe to apply in almost any environment, as it lacks volatile organic compounds.

Preparation and application are job-site and project specific. Before any new project commences, a member of the Alberts Spray Solutions team reviews specifications to ensure all proper steps and procedures are taken.

There are several advantages to choosing polyurea:

  • Rapid cure time
  • Flexible application environments
  • Fewer applications required
  • DEP, NSF, and USDA/Agriculture Canada approved
  • Chemical and weather-resistant
  • ISO 9001 certified

Polyurea and polyurethane are both two-component systems made with isocyanate-based materials. That second component is where the differences begin, as polyurethane contains poly resin while polyurea contains polyether amine.

When it comes to performance, typical polyurethanes require a catalyst, which is sensitive to moisture and harsh temperatures. Polyureas, on the other hand, do
not require a catalyst. Because of this, cure time is fast and application environments are more flexible.

The cost of linings, containments, and other products are dependent on the size and specifications of the project, including the desired thickness of the coating. For specific pricing information, tell us about your project and request a quote by contacting us.

As with any project, the more time we have for preparations, the smoother the installation. However, we understand that not all projects will allow for a wide window of notice. We work with our clients in all situations and strive to always provide exemplary customer service.

Installation time can vary depending on size, complexity, weather, and delays caused by other contractors. We can typically complete an installation—or multiple installations at the same location—in one working day.
